Sling, a type of a lifting mechanism, made of steel,
used to lift any kind of load, large or heavy or can be used in many other ways
used in industry which makes them important piece of lifting loads in engineering.
They are not steel chains which are normally used to lift the load but they are
a mechanism, which is connected to chains in such a way that their hooks are
connected to loads in equilibrium to lift it. A crane is used to lift the load
using the above mentioned mechanism.
They are made up of steel, which is suitable to lift heavy
loads which are bearable by its hooks and chains. Also the steel used, is
suitable for hot temperatures in some industries and even in hazardous
chemicals. They are available in different sizes and arrangement which makes
them uniquely configured for the required loads. The chain is attached to a
master hook which is divided into one or several hooks, depending on the load
that is to be lifted. Mostly they are available in one, two, three and four
hooks for lifting loads. Others are also available as per requirement.
The most important factor that is to be looked upon when
lifting any kind of load is the angle of the chain in vertical position. This
angle should not be greater than 60 degrees looking straight from vertical
position and should not be less than 20 degrees as it will make it unstable to lift
the load.
IT is used in many kind of manufacturing and engineering
companies like construction industry, container lifting in shipyards and any
kind of industry which requires heavy loads to be lifted.
Chain slings has become an important part of industries these
days that deal with the lifting gears of heavy equipments and containers and
its importance can’t be neglected.
